Not too long ago a dream was put into reality, that dream namely was Hope Wheels. For those who may not be familiar with this initiative of Queensway, simply put it as a group of people from this church who travel downtown to hand out “Hope” to the needy. They give out sleeping bags, food, and offer their love. They are making a difference.

CORNERSTONE
Reaching the inner city of Toronto! The Cornerstone Team prepare and transport either a hot meal or dessert for hundreds of people being served at Church in downtown Toronto.

KINARK CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES
Kinark is a prison for youth between the ages of 11 and 17. Some youth are there for emotional reasons, some for protection and others for criminality. Each month the Kinark Team visit the centre to have a time of worship, sharing the Word, and then one-on-one time with the residents. The team has seen teens changed by the grace of God and they are able to return to their community with new hope.

PRISON MINISTRY
The Mimico Prison Ministry Team has been serving inmates at the Mimico Correctional Facilities in Etobicoke since 1987. The team visits on the third Sunday of each month, and in partnership with the Prison Chaplain and a Gideon representative, they lead worship, provide special music, and share testimonies. Pray for continued effectiveness of this team in sharing God’s love.

Small Groups

image

Pastor Gary Empey

Queensway’s small groups are a great place to connect with others who share your love for God and have similar interests. We all want a place where everyone knows our name, a place where we’re a significant part of a caring community. As the church continues to grow larger, belonging to a small group becomes more significant. Jesus walked with multitudes, yet remained part of a close-knit small group. I want to be like Jesus and belonging to a small group helps me walk closer to HIM.

We want to see lives transformed . . . changed . . . irrevocably altered for Christ. Becoming disciples (with the mind of Christ) … developing disciples to win hearts for Christ.

A Small Group is a nurturing place to:

  • Communicate the gospel of love
    (Mark 13:10)
  • Carry one another’s burdens
    (Galatians 6:2)
  • Encourage one another
    (1 Thessalonians 4:18)
  • Offer hospitality to one another
    (1 Peter 4:9)
  • Encourage one another on toward love and good deeds
    (Hebrews 10:24)
  • Confront and forgive one another
    (Matthew 5:23, 18:15; Colossians 3:13)

Please make the time to invest in a small group. The rewards are great and the dividends are eternal. Out of the deeper study of God’s word and sharing within your group you will begin to discover your unique ministry and be encouraged to serve others. We must evangelize the city of Toronto for Christ!

Connect with a small group and experience God… again… for the first time!

    The Alpha Course 1 & 2

What is the point of life? What happens when we die? Is forgiveness possible? What relevance does Jesus have for our lives today?

    What is Alpha?
The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith. It’s relaxed, non-threatening, low key, friendly and fun.

There is a meal together at the beginning of each session, which gives you an opportunity to get to know each other.

Listen, learn, discuss and discover. And ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.

    What’s involved?

The Alpha course consists of a series of talks looking at topics such as ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘Why and how do I pray?’ After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of discussion.

    Who is Alpha for?

    Alpha is for everyone, especially:

    • Those wanting to investigate Christianity
    • New Christians
    • Newcomers to the Church
    • Those who want to brush up on the Basics

    What will it cost?
There is no charge for the Alpha course, although you may be asked to make a contribution towards food and materials.

    What is Alpha 2?
Alpha 2 is a 9-week follow-up series for all those who have completed “Alpha 1” course to discover a life worth living. We will be exploring topics such as:

    • New Heart
    • New Purpose
    • New Attitude
    • New Confidence

If you are interested in attending or require more information on the Alpha Course, please call Pastor Gary Empey at the church office or email him at

    Sunday School: 9:15-10:15 a.m.

We offer a FUNtastic educational program for children from preschoolers through to our Club 56 class for our Grade 5 & 6’s. Queensway Cathedral is blessed with a team of dedicated and loving teachers who care so much for the children they minister to each week. Using everything from flannel graphs, drama, audio/visual presentations and computer programs, they teach life changing lessons from God’s Word. Since the classes are divided into age appropriate groups, children are able to interact and participate in discussions with their peers and learn how to apply these lessons to their everyday situations. Children are also encouraged to support Missionaries around the world and are involved in several Outreach Projects.

    Super Church- 10:30 a.m.

Every Sunday we minister to over 200 children from infants to Gr. 6. Children join with their families for worship in the morning service before heading to their own chapel areas.

Our Preschool – Sr. Kindergarteners meet in Room 103. We have dynamic ministry teams made up of families, adults and youth, who share together as they lead these children in learning about God. Games, crafts, songs, Bible stories, and more all add up to an action packed educational experience.

Grades 1-5 meet in the Fellowship Hall for their own SUPER SERVICE. Using drama, audio/visual presentations, puppetry, music, and activity sheets, our Children Pastors and ministry teams encourage them to deepen their relationship with God and to share their faith with others. They are encouraged to pray for each other, for Missionaries, and for those who do not yet have a personal relationship with God.

    Sunday Evening

Our evening Super Church is unique in its format in that we have a more “hands on learning” style. Children from preschool – Gr. 5 meet in Room 101 and are encouraged to participate in active learning. Drama and role play are used to act out the Bible lesson. Crafts, games and action songs are used to reinforce the lesson theme. Opportunities to learn puppetry skills, drama, and visual arts are featured regularly. Throughout the year, we expand our program to join with the Alpha Program. So come on out for a time that is both physically and spiritually edifying.

    Adventure Club: Wednesdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Adventure Club is our midweek ministry program for children from Jr. Kindergarten – Gr. 6. This program features an organizational format of team competitions, age graded class times and large group open sessions. Each week we have gym activities and sporting events. A special feature is the craft activities that can range from decorative art pieces to edible goodies from the kitchen. As well, this program encourages the children to invite their friends to join in on the fun activities and to learn about God for themselves.

    Mommy & Me: Thursdays 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Each week, mothers along with their newborns, infants and preschoolers meet together in the Nursery for a time of interaction, fun and mutual support. Children are given supervised care as the Moms have a time apart for devotionals and group discussions on topics pertinent to their needs. Often, the time spent over a coffee and cookie has helped many a mother to refresh themselves in God’s presence and to be encouraged in their role as a nurturing caregiver to their families.
